| Loveland Pass is approximately 60 miles west of Denver. The altitude at the summit of the pass is 12,000 feet, near Timberline. This image was taken at approximately 3AM. The morning was cold with very little wind and a few wispy clouds. The trees and foreground, illuminated by the lights at the bottom of the pass of intersection I-70, gives the image a surreal feeling. Just before the Comet rose, a group of teenagers were brought to the top of the pass to ski down the mountain in the moonlight. They were surprised to run into another person up there at 2 AM.
The image was taken with an Olympus OM2 through a 50mm F1.8 lens mounted on a tripod, using Kodak Royal Gold 1000 speed film and an exposure time of 25 seconds. Weather Conditions: Mostly clear with wispy upper clouds, 20 degrees F.
