| TITLE: Ephemeral Rainbow |
Yellowknife, NT, Canada: January 2002

With the Aurora Oval usually between 60 and 70 degrees north, Yellowknife is very well located to catch northern lights displays. In the six weeks that I spent in Yellowknife, there seemed to be a 90% chance that you would eventually see some kind of display if it was clear, that was usually very worth while. I can remember only two nights where it was clear and I did not see any aurora at all. I knew it was going to be strong when this colorful curtain formed and was obvious even before the end of evening twilight. Weather Conditions: Clear, dry, 25 degrees below zero F and dropping fast.
